Baby-Toddler-A lively colorful board book that counts the 12 days leading up to Christmas. This eye-catching counting book features a varied cast of characters and items taken from Dahl's many books. For instance, Matilda sits atop a pile of tomes for "12 books a-balancing," and "5 golden tickets" are from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The illustrated man on the spread with "4 fizzy drinks" and "3 noisy whizzpops" is from The BFG, and the "2 sneaking foxes" are from Fantastic Mr. Fox. As with many of Dahl's famous children's books, this one is beautifully illustrated by Blake. The font and text are big enough for little ones who are learning to discern and decipher words. This would be a nice introduction of Dahl's works to a younger audience who, as they get older, can continue to enjoy these characters. VERDICT A great initiation to Dahl's many beloved characters from some of his greatest and well-known titles. A good choice for collections.-Annmarie Braithwaite
